Roleplay games
I'm keen to organise tabletop RPG sessions and to GM, especially if someone else would be willing to GM another time.
The classic introductory RPG offer is a one-shot with no rules or light rules. You can do short sessions of 2-3 hours but 3-4 hours is more typical.
I have a preference for groups of 3-5 players (limit 6). For 7+ people, something like a murder party works better than classic tabletop RPG.
I enjoy introducing new players to RPGs, but I'd also be curious to run something more complex if people want to level up (it trains rationality, apparently — it's a bit like nailing the scenarios in Paleo on the first try).
Systems I can GM
Call of Cthulhu (intro) — mystery, horror, investigation
An RPG that starts a bit fantastical and quickly goes into cosmic horror. (Well, if you end up mad, maybe you were mad all along?)
In Call of Cthulhu, you take on the role of everyday people who become investigators of the unknown — whether they are prepared or not. The mysterious places, people, and situations you encounter are often not what they seem — you and your friends are the only thing standing in the way of diabolical cults and cosmic monsters from beyond space!
So investigate, investigate — you might survive.
Shadow Musketeers (intro) — adventure, panache, bravery, investigation
In 1654, an alien spaceship crashes in the woods of Fontainebleau, carrying dangerous convicts from across the galaxy. Regent Mazarin seizes the affair, makes a pact with the alien ship commander, and creates an elite unit: the Shadow Musketeers. You play swashbucklers blending bravery and panache to track down the most incongruous aliens — like Men in Black, but in the age of musketeers.
Ars Magica (intro) — adventure, strategy/tactics
Set in mythical Arthurian medieval Europe (where Arthurian legends and similar myths are more or less true), centered around a Covenant — a kind of school of magic with labs and advanced studies. Characters are often a mix of mages, companions, and mundane folk, seeking to grow their covenant by solving local problems or seeking precious resources.
Orc Invasion (intro)
We play as ourselves, in the 21st century, but strange things start happening... (It could be an orc invasion, literally orcs opening a portal from another world, or it could be something fantastical or Narnia-like or...)
Shadowrun (medium/complex)
Shadowrun is a science fantasy tabletop role-playing game set in an alternate future in which cybernetics, magic and fantasy creatures co-exist. It combines genres of cyberpunk, urban fantasy, and crime, with occasional elements of conspiracy, horror, and detective fiction.
Systems I'd like to try GMing
Paranoia — science fiction, survival, dark humour
You are aboard a spaceship that has left Earth. The Computer takes care of you. It gives you your missions and responsibilities on board. Be sure to report traitor commie-mutants at every opportunity.
Star Wars
Science fiction based on one of my dreams
You wake up in an abandoned train, or a hangar, or something. You have some memories of who you are but not much more than that. The goal is to figure out where you are, who you are, and what's going on.
